Review:

The first two scenes are in the heroine and the hero’s point of view, but Lois Wencil won me over completely by the third scene, when she engagingly and convincingly writes in the p.o.v. of the dog in A Mistress Gets A Master.

This is the story of Lisa who is getting her first guide dog, Boyd who is the guide dog’s trainer and Amber, the golden retriever who does her best to bring her two favorite people together.

Lisa has not been blind for long, and she has a lot on her plate. In addition to losing her sight, she’s also lost her philandering husband. The dog trainers assure her that having a guide dog is the first step toward the independence she so desperately needs; and that is a good thing, because she’s got to find a job to be able to support her three year old son, Tommy.

Lois Wencil has written a charming and engaging story that is a quick read. She displays an expert knowledge of the pacing of the romantic contemporary. The relationship between Lisa and Boyd is one that develops logically helped along with a natural repartee, and well-rounded character development. Additionally, Lois writes with great authority about many aspects of the developing relationship between a blind person and a guide dog. I do not read many contemporaries, but when Ms. Wencil writes another book, I will go out of my way to read it.
