Review:

Most readers have heard of Nora Roberts. Most readers have read at least one or a few of her books. Most readers say the same thing about her and that is that she consistently delivers a good, solid book. But as with all authors, particularly those with extensive backlists, some books are better than others. Not in this case and I have to say this now, High Noon is one of the best Roberts books I’ve read.

High Noon is one of those memorable books because of the characters and the story. The entirety of the story was about Phoebe’s dedication to saving lives, not only those of the hostages but those of the hostage taker also. High Noon shows you that emotions and fear can hold you hostage more effectively than a man with a gun. It’s a story of how Phoebe saves and is saved herself.

The romance between Phoebe and Duncan is very strong and nicely balanced against the action neither overpowering the other. And while some may complain that Phoebe & Duncan's relationship seem similar to the relationship between Eve and Roarke from the "In Death" series in some ways, I don‘t. I enjoy that give and take that are part of both sets of characters. There are hints of Eve Dallas in Phoebe, mostly in language idiosyncrasies and Duncan is a caretaker much like Roarke is. High Noon, because of both the similarities to other characters and the differences this book goes on my keeper shelf. And please give me more books of this kind of strong characters and a good plot.
