I've always been fascinated by Tarot cards and when I discovered that Ellora's Cave was doing a Torrid Tarot series, I knew it was just the thing for me. The first book in the series I decided to try was Brynn Paulin's erotic novella On Your Knees.

From the first moment you know this book is about D/s so if that is not your kind of thing, this is not the book for you. Lucky for me, I'm perfectly happy reading D/s stories so I sat down for a few hours of pleasurable reading wondering just what kind of punishment our heroine will be dished out.

We meet Jessica Rush in her office at Cress Construction Company as she's debating whether or not to attend a sex toy party with her friend Keera. Bogged down by work, Jessica is in no mood to waste time at the Pleasure Palace handling the newest dildos in front of a bunch of giggling women. Better she works on finishing her financial reports so her extra sexy boss Ryan Cress isn't breathing down her neck, though having him that close might not be so bad -- she'd just prefer it to be in the bedroom.

It isn't until Ryan comes in to check on her progress, again, that she finds herself being pushed out the door to go to the party, her boss firmly telling her she will lose her job if she doesn't get out and have some fun away from work. If there is one thing she can't stand, it's being told what to do, but she needs her job and if spending a few minutes at a stupid toy party will get Ryan off her back for awhile, well, she'll just have to give it a shot. How bad can it be anyway? It isn't like the place has a dungeon where they tie people up or anything.

Ryan Cress knows a submissive when he sees one and Jessica Rush is definitely meant to be his. Years of playing Dom at the Pleasure Palace have strengthened his restraint around women, but all that training goes out the window when he's in the room with Jessica. For months she's been all he can think of and the only woman he's wanted. It's time he did something about it.

Ryan knows something has happened to her in her past to make her need to be in control so much, but it is obvious by the dark circles under her eyes and the worry lines on her forehead that she isn't happy in the dominant role she plays during the day. What a shame to mar such a pretty face. Perhaps if she spent an evening on her knees in his private dungeon she'd find out what she really is meant to be…his.

Ms. Paulin's novella is a completely enjoyable read, brimming with page after page of intimate moments in the BDSM tradition that will have you squirming in your seat. The emotional connection between Jessica and Ryan adds to the D/s theme to make this more than just a sex fest. For those who dream of a Dom of their own, Ryan is a man every sub would love to have and reading about him is pure pleasure.

If you are D/s fan and want a nighttime read to put you in the mood, I highly recommend you give On Your Knees a place on your nightstand.
