Review:

I have to say that this book fell into my hands strictly by chance. I know ImaJinn books from Lilith Saintcrow, Keri Arthur, Candace Sams and Virginia Brown (am still looking for that fourth Harley Jean book) but to my regret I haven’t really looked beyond those authors. So when Some Practical Magic and its sequel came up and needed reviewed I said, "They sound cute. I’ll do them." What I got was more than just a “cute” story.

Despite her mother's wishes that she settle, find a nice male witch to marry, Cassandra Hawthorne’s attempt in that department ended in disaster. After all, who could love a man called Mortician? Willing to do anything to escape her mother’s endless matchmaking “Kitchen Witch” Cassandra jumps at the chance to go on a book tour. The tour’s main headliner is blockbuster horror novelist M. S. Kazimer. But Cassie is clueless as to what she is getting herself into.

Mirek "Mick" Sandor has decided that this is M.S. Kazimer’s last book. He is retiring. On his final book tour, he meets Cassandra whose writing he's admired for years. Mick finds Cassie’s beauty and thoughtfulness more than enough to compensate for his puzzling allergic reaction to her catlike business manager, Endora.

And even though Mick’s not “one of her own kind” ,Cassie finds an instant attraction between them. But Mick has a secret darker and more deadly than Cassie’s own secret of being a real witch. With a serial killer copying the murders in M. S. Kazimer’s books now stalking the tour, Cassie must choose between risking Mick’s love by revealing her secret or protecting them all with her practical magic.

Laurie C. Kuna’s Some Practical Magic is a modern-day tale of witchcraft, murder and love. Each aspect is well rounded and crucial to the flow of this impossible to put down novel. This book is one that will have you laughing one minute and slipping into a web of suspense that will bring a chill to your spine the next. Along with a budding romance, the mysterious feline Endora, and a serial killer intent on capturing Mick's attention, this is sure to be one hell of a book tour.
