Review:

The possibility of magic has always fascinated me. Witches, potions and incantations easily grab my attention. I'd like to believe that magic could exist, even in a hard and scientific time like today. Because of my interest in magic, I was drawn to Traci E. Hall's romantic fantasy Love's Magic.

Celestia Montehue has always known she was different from the rest of her family. From her mismatched eyes to the gift of sight she developed at an early age, so many things set her apart from her sisters. While her sisters were tall and beautiful, Celestia was quite petite, and, well, plain by comparison. Magic just didn't seem to make up for her lack of pure beauty.

The eldest of the girls, she had given up hope of ever marrying and only wished to spend the balance of her days treating the sick and learning the nuances of her craft. She was a healer and woman of sight. She could mend bones with her hands and see visions of the future.

Disturbed by a vision of a lowly man wearing only one shoe, Celestia knew at once that something horrible was about to happen. Visitors to the castle entered the keep and she was told the Baron insisted she was to marry Nicholas Le Blanc at once. To everyone's surprise but Celestia's, he was the drunken man from her vision dressed in a monk's garb wearing only one shoe.

Celestia knew she couldn't marry this man, but how in the world would she ever escape? It was the Baron's decree and the Baron held the title to her father's land, not to mention he held her young brothers in servitude. Somehow she must find a way out of the arranged marriage, but how?

Nicholas le Blanc had had better days, not that he could remember any of them just at present. The splitting headache certainly was not helping matters at all and who was it that kept touching him with the lightest of fingertips? An angel perhaps? Maybe he had finally died after all.

It wouldn't be so bad being dead. His only regret would be that he hadn't had enough life left to kill the man who had sent him on crusade and purposely had his party ambushed and killed. Well, everyone but Nicholas was killed. Nicholas was left alive to be abused by his captor, and held in chains for what seemed like a lifetime.

A quick glance told him it was not an angel, but a petite and beautiful blond woman who attended him. Her healing touch was pushing the pain from his head, but who in the world was she, and how did she come upon this gift? Eh, it didn’t really matter anyway. As soon as he was healed he would be back on his trip for vengeance. Too bad though that he couldn’t stick around; she certainly was a pretty thing.

Traci E. Hall has crafted an intriguing story about a man and a woman whose lives become intertwined with love and magic. Both troubled by their pasts and their futures, Nicholas and Celestia's relationship is outlined carefully and developed fully throughout the course of the book. Upon reading Love's Magic, you will get to know both of them intimately and experience with them their trials and tribulations on the path to true love.

Love's Magic is a well-written, enjoyable story for anyone who likes their romance tinged with fantasy and the hint of the impossible. A stubborn man and a proud woman make this a delightful romantic tale to while away the hours with.
