If you've read any of my books, then you know that I love romance novels and love writing romances. If it is a romantic comedy, so much the better. I have always loved romance and a happy ending. I tend to be an upbeat person most of the time, so maybe that's why. If I want to be sad, I'll spend ten minutes surveying the world around me and the despair in countries like Darfur. Since, I don't really want to be sad, I tend to find my little escapes. I daydream, I read romances, I write romances and I see romantic comedies at the theater.
My most recent release is FINDING MS. RIGHT, which is a romantic comedy about what happens when you play games in a relationship instead of just being yourself. Both the hero and heroine in this story take bad advice from two different books. The books are in direct opposition to one another and this creates problems in an of itself.
For example, his book says to call her at the last minute for a date and her book says to only accept dates that are made three or more days in advance. You can see how this just doesn't work. If his book says to kiss her goodnight, hers says not to allow him to. Even though the conflict between the two books creates some funny moments, in the end, the two get together anyway for their happily ever after.
Some of my favorite romantic comedy movies:
*Just Like Heaven
*Sweet Home Alabama
*Miss Congeniality
*Ella Enchanted
*Return to Me
*The Perfect Man
*13 Going on 30
*Never Been Kissed
*50 First Dates
I also love old Doris Day and Elvis movies, which almost always center around a romance.
And, I have a new favorite. Just this week my mom and I went to see MAMA MIA at the theater. I loved this movie. It is a modern day remake of a play and is a musical. I didn't realize it was a musical and was pleasantly surprised. The only thing better than a good romantic comedy is one where they break out in spontaneous dance and song. Meryl Streep is absolutely fabulous in this movie and it had Pierce Brosnan, whom I've long been in love with since the days of REMINGTON STEELE (shhh! Don't tell my hubby). Between drooling over Pierce's brooding eyes and laughing over the antics in the movie, I had a great time. You don't want to miss this movie.
I love romance because it is one of those things that brings hope into the world. There is nothing quite as exciting as a new romance and nothing quite as heartwarming as romance that has been alive for fifty years or more.
