Bianca Honeywell lived under the fallout from a 300- year-old curse. An ill-fated love between a married man, Liam Halestrom, and her great-great-great- . . . grandmother, Celia Honeywell, resulted in the birth of an illegitimate and secretly kept daughter and had pushed the man to betray his lover and declare her a witch.
With her last breath, Celia cast a curse on all men of Liam's line: to fall in love with and be killed by their love for a witch, any witch, not necessarily of Celia's own descent.
The Halestrom men died because they found the kind of love that made them care no more about the curse or the fact that, as a consequence, they would lose their lives.
Worse, the Honeywell women died alone, often having to sustain the grief of loss along with the suspicion that they had caused that very loss.
Bianca Honeywell was the witch of Clover Falls and she'd had plenty of experience with reporters who came only to gather facts for well paid articles, mostly for the tabloids. The last of them found his way to her heart, only to leave her without a goodbye. The article he published two weeks later broke Bianca's heart.
And now, this newcomer to the town of Clover Falls showed the same charisma and curiosity of a reporter hunting for a sensational story.
Though he introduced himself as Luke Jones--and Bianca decided to avoid him like the plague--she touched his hand and had a vision connected with the curse. He was a Halestrom.
Luke knew he was living with a curse, and he was afraid to love and commit to life with a partner. His uncle had died on the eve of his marriage to the mother of beautiful Bianca. He needed Bianca's cooperation in order to write an article disproving magic, witches and curses, while Bianca needed him in order to glean more of the past. They had a common goal--to put a stop to the Honeywell curse.
Friends who loved Bianca and tried to protect her from another heartbreak, as well as Luke's own refusal to accept magic, caused him to believe he was not going to fall in love. However . . . .
Read and enjoy a well written story of love surviving and flourishing even when the two main characters are a real but very ethical witch and a non-believer in magic. The story flows, keeping you enthralled to the last page.
On a scale of 1 to 5, a heartfelt 4 Quills.
