Edible Green Mountain

Edible Green Mountains is a member of Edible Communities, a growing, award-winning, national network of community-based food publications whose mission is to transform the way communities shop for, cook, eat and think about food that is grown and produced in their area. To read more about Edible Communities go to www.edible communities.com

Edible Green Mountains is a quarterly magazine that emphasizes the current season by celebrating the abundance of local food and wine throughout Vermont. Edible Green Mountains has a loyal following of readers who are interested in: eating delicious locally grown seasonal food; getting to know the people who grow, produce, cook and sell those foods; in terms of great dining, day trips, food events and festivals, great books to read and products to try. We look for subjects that are timely and traditional, and we have special interest in topics that relate to the full breadth of our mission.

We rely on freelance writers for the majority of our stories and departments. Writers generally generate their own topics or, in some cases, the editor can make assignments based on writers’ interests and knowledge. The primary qualification for contributors is an ability to write in a lively, elegant, informative, accurate and interesting manner. We are looking for tightly written articles with an original voice that will engage and inform our readers.

Recipes are highly desirable, but they must be original and carefully tested (testing conducted by EGM’s Editor.) Recipes that are not original, permission to reprint must be obtained and paid for by the submitter. Please note all sources for information in the article should be cited, and if passages from published (including Web published) material are included, permission for use must be obtained.

Department stories range from 500 - 800 words. Our departments include Edible Season -recipes from local chefs, gardeners and farmers; tips on cooking with the season and what to do with our bounty of produce; At the Table- an inside look at a professional chef or locally owned restaurant that brings food from farm to plate; Liquid Assets - we examine the art and science of beverages from age-old cocktails to microbrews; From the Good Earth-we profile the unique farmers, foragers and forward thinking farm businesses and local artisans that work diligently to provide us with local products; Notable Edible – the latest food related finds from the region, tips on where to eat, shop for kitchen gadgets and find ingredients ; Worth the trip – a series of day trips that lead to memorable culinary discoveries.

Feature stories range from 700 – 2000 words. Topics include an in-depth exploration of local ingredient, a farm or farmer profile or food related experience. Examples include making and canning jam, appreciating honey bees, to local school gardens that supplement fresh food in their cafeteria.

If you have a story that you think would work well for Edible Green Mountains please submit a query outlining the subject matter and focus of the article. Potential EGM writers should also submit mission related writing samples along with a brief biography detailing their interests, professional and educational background, and publishing experience. We prefer all inquiries by email with attachments using Microsoft Word.

Nonfiction: Stockhouse Guidelines

Stockhouse Article Submission Guidelines

What do we want?
We're looking for opinion, but it should be supported by analysis. We're looking for reasoning, not rants or raves.
Think outside the norm. The mainstream financial press writes about a few hundred companies, but there are thousands of stocks that would be ideal subjects for Stockhouse articles.
Go deep. A company analysis, for example, should look beneath the surface at its prospects, management, products or services, and the competitive landscape. A trading strategy should include examples and outcomes.
Get personal. Our professional columnists cover the general economic and investment landscape. We want our community to write about how these events relate to them. In other words, write what you know.
What kinds of subjects do we consider?
Anything and everything related to investing. Here are a few suggestions to get you started.
Report on contact you've had with a company (shareholder meetings, AGMs, conversations with top executives).
Insight into a company because of specific expertise (geologists, engineers, scientists, investment bankers).
Opinion, based on a reasoned argument.
Trading strategies, including examples, charts, and outcomes.
Query us with your ideas and we'll guide you!
What are the ground rules?
Every article that gets published on Stockhouse gets reviewed by Stockhouse editorial staff, who edit and publish the article. The editor may make suggestions and send it back to the author for updates.
In order to ensure that we're accountable for quality content on the Stockhouse site, authors must submit their names and contact information to the editors, although they will be permitted to publish articles under their member names.
Authors must disclose positions in stocks or investment vehicles they are writing about.
Authors must disclose conflicts of interest, such as when they are employees of the company or companies they are writing about.
Authors must agree that they are submitting content created by themselves, and must correctly acknowledge sources they quote.
What will you get out of writing for Stockhouse?
Writing for Stockhouse will get you one of the largest investor audiences in North America. The community will read and respond to your work, and you'll be able to build a following of active readers. Of course we'll link your Stockhouse articles to your blog or online newsletter.
Respect! Share your knowledge with the Stockhouse community and get noticed. Going forward, the quality and frequency of your contributions will affect your personal reputation ranking in the Stockhouse community.
Technical Considerations
Articles are best submitted as email attachments, composed in Microsoft Word. If you prefer, you can write your article directly into the body of the email.
We like to see articles between 500 and 1000 words. If you have ideas for longer pieces, we can publish them over time in "parts."
Don't worry about font, point size, line spacing, etcetera. We will take care of those issues during the editorial and publishing process.
We look forward to your contribution!

AAA Writers Guidelines: (Requested)

*Note: This was not forwarded as an open to submissions request looking for writers but a question emailed in for Guidelines to AAA magazine. Please note that AAA has a lot of local magazines and we don't have room to post all of the guidelines to all of the magazines unless we do a whole series just on AAA. So, we are providing the media newsroom link here. You can contact the local media of the area where you wish to establish a writing association, and get the specifics there.

Southern Traveler

Guidelines for writers and photographers
*All articles for 2011 have been assigned.
AAA Southern Traveler is published bimonthly by the AAA Auto Club of Missouri and is sent to 230,000 AAA households in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
The magazine’s goal is to provide readers with a variety of useful articles on travel, auto safety and their AAA membership. The magazine publishes approximately 5 to 6 freelance travel stories per issue. Departments (Travel Treasures, Driver’s Seat, Card Tricks, In the News and Common Cents) are staff-written.
How to contact us
Send queries rather than finished manuscripts. The best time to query is January through April. Please note that we plan a year in advance. We are not responsible for returning unsolicited manuscripts or photos. Send a SASE to receive a quicker response, however, we try to respond within four weeks of receipt. We will consider a previously published article if it appeared in a non-compet- ing publication. Simultaneous queries are accepted; just let us know.

Assignments
We work from an editorial calendar and assignments are made at least six months in advance. We purchase first North American serial rights for print and electronic distribution. A copy of the magazine is sent to new contributors with the assignment, which always is made by letter. We use AP Stylebook and prefer third-person style. Obviously, the writer should have visited the places s/he is describing.

Payment
We pay upon acceptance, not publication. That’s the good news. The bad news is you won’t get rich doing this. A 1,200-word feature goes for $300. Shorter pieces, $250. If it’s picked up in our sister magazine, AAA Midwest Traveler, it’s another $150. We don’t pay assignment expenses.

Photos
We purchase photography throughout the year. We prefer digital images (please do not send slides unless that’s all you have) saved 300 dpi as a minimum as a CMYK TIFF or JPEG. Pay ranges from $75 for a small image used inside up to $300 for a cover.

No-no’s
Humor, satire, fiction, poetry, cartoons, reviews

Mirage

The Cochise College Literary Magazine, Mirage, is now accepting submissions for its 2012 issue.

The staff of Mirage invites you to submit your work for consideration. We also invite you to encourage other artists or writers to submit their work. Priority deadline is Nov. 17.

Mirage Literary and Arts Magazine showcases high-quality art and literature produced by community members. Submissions are accepted from Cochise College students and residents of Cochise and Santa Cruz counties. The works are selected via an anonymous process. Each submission is judged without disclosure of the writer’s or artist’s name.

For information about submission guidelines and where to send submissions, visit the Mirage’s website, found under “Student Publications” on the homepage of the Cochise College website, www.cochise.edu. The direct link to the Mirage online is skywalker.cochise.edu:8080/mirage.

Writers Guidelines Site ?

While this is clearly not writer's market (though some of it may have originated there), this site appears to be a few clicks away from several publication's guidelines pages. However we only checked a couple, and they judging from what we found, they may not all work.

For example, the New Yorker link took us to a description of the New Yorker, then to a subscription page.

Guidelines

They also ask for free writing submissions.

UNDERGROUND VOICES

Looking for Poetry, Fiction, Non-fiction, and Flash fiction.

If you would like to submit, please include a bio

and send email submissions in the body of the email

work has been accepted elsewhere, please notify us

so that we may withdraw it from consideration.

Work that has appeared in print magazines will be

considered as long as it does not appear on the print

magazine's website. We do not accept work that has

We're working on changing that.
