Did I mention the conference/agent who steered me toward the erotic romance genre happened in April of 2004? I submitted THE GAME to Ellora’s Cave the summer of 2004. December 2004, I received an email of acceptance while at work.

Needless to say, one’s place of employment isn’t the most convenient location to hoot and holler, but I did. Tears of joy came next. The problem? My company was in the midst of layoffs, so of course everyone assumed I’d just got hit. No. That didn’t come until March 2005.

Fortunately for me, I’d been with the company for over twenty-one years and received a nice severance package. Still anyone who has been laid off knows the sucker-punch one feels, and yes, my ego took a blow that slowed— What am I saying? It halted my creative process, but all wasn’t lost. I had the release of my new book to look forward to.

I don’t think I’ve mentioned how wonderful my husband and daughters are. Each step of the process was party. We celebrated the blurb, the cover, the ISBN number, and finally May 18, 2005, the actual release of THE GAME, Ecstasy Series.

I can’t even begin to adequately describe the emotions I felt. I was writer—a published author. I’m sure I wore out my refresh button looking at the New Release page over and over. But that excitement soon became daunting. What if no one liked the book?

Nothing can prepare you for that first review. But thankfully, THE GAME was received favorably and for me a new career was born.
