Everyone knows a lie takes on a life of its own, but what do you do when a good lie meant to protect someone steals your future happiness? Dr. Olivia Crane struggles with this issue in Mona Risk’s newest novel, NO MORE LIES.
Olivia Crane works hard to balance her professional life at the Crisis Center and her limited personal life. An early mistake when she just started college follows her like a dark cloud bringing with it a possible threat of destroying the stability she‘s managed to create. Luc George, a handsome doctor and lover from her past, reappears and possibly could upset everything with his questions, and the pull he still exerts over her heart.
Luc George is not a man who accepts falsehoods. A lie prevented him from getting to know his young son before his death. Back in the United States, he welcomes the opportunity to work with Olivia, an old flame who still burns brightly. Olivia rejected him and his love for her ten years ago, never saying why, keeping her secrets. An invitation back to her hospital draws him like a magnet, but then she tells him she didn’t invite him. In the confusion, he recognizes she still cares for him, no matter how much she denies it. If he could only show her that he could help her with her secrets.
Olivia’s life mirrors her clients in the aspect that she’s been forced to make hard choices. One of them was pushing Luc out of her life because she couldn’t share her secret, but now he’s back. If that isn’t bad enough the man behind the secret is back too, ready to steal the dearest thing from her life. Luc is determined to prevent this from happening. If he can, there might be a chance for them, but she’s already used up all her chances, or has she?
The chemistry in NO MORE LIES works well. Luc and Olivia do feel like old lovers who circle each other cautiously. The attraction is still there, and neither one is willing to give it up. Jeremy Rutherford is conscienceless trust-fund baby who doesn’t care who he hurts as long as he gets his way and his money. Olivia’s struggles multiply when her boss orders her to work with Jeremy. Conflict increases with every plot twist.
NO MORE LIES is a page turner that offers a happy ending. I enjoyed Luc’s old world charm along with the sprinkling of foreign endearments in the story. Olivia Crane is a strong woman who not only stands on her two feet, but offers good advice to women who have trouble doing likewise. This is a wonderful example of what a contemporary romance should be showcasing noble characters who makes mistakes, but who also allow love to conquer all. I highly recommend it.
