Every day my mother packed me the same lunch – bread and butter, sliced cheese, chocolate pudding and a cookie. For seven years this was much lunch and though I was perfectly happy with the monotony, my mother begged me to make a change – any change. Too bad The World in Your Lunchbox wasn't around back then!
This book is overflowing with cute illustrations, famous food stories and hilarious lunch facts. From the pigs hanging on the first pages to the Vegetable Orchestra mentioned near the final page, this book will keep you laughing, and learning, your way through a week's worth of lunches.
Claire Earner put a lot of research into the history of lunch but my favorite page has got to be page 86 where we get to see what your tortilla is doing while it is waiting around for you to fill it. Oh, while you are looking it has to lie flat and think about math or Christmas, but when you turn your back – look out – it's into yoga!!!
Yes, that is what this book is like. Fun. Pick it up and read it by yourself or with your child. You won't find many actual recipes in here, but you will learn a lot about the food that goes into the brown paper sack. Enjoy!
