Cecilia Aubrey Day 3: Books-Escapism at its finest

[Forward][Back]

When I was thirteen, my dad received orders to report to Zaragoza A.F.B., Spain. My parents were excited. My mother especially since Zaragoza was five hours north of Madrid and as close to home as she could get. It was during this time that my mother’s reading influence finally took hold. Every week no matter what, we would take the bus from our apartment downtown to the base and roam the library for hours waiting for my mother to find books to check out.

It was on one such trip that I discovered Anne McCaffrey’s world of Pern, which set me on a journey of adventure and discovery.

I devoured every one of her books that were available at the time. She was my springboard into the world of sci-fi fantasy. I escaped to those worlds and immersed myself in them. When I came to the end of the series, I would write the next installment in my head not wanting to let go of the characters I had come to love. I began spending any spare time in the Stars and Stripes bookstore on base and would spend hours on finding the right books which I purchased with money I earned during the summer. I loved bringing them home, studying the covers, reading the back jackets, and inhaling deeply from the pages when I finally cracked open each book.

Today, the cover and back jackets still hold my fascination when I chose a book. Chris and I understand that first impressions are what draw a reader in. Some go for a great cover; some make their decision based on the back jacket and the story tease. Personally, I think we have the covers down. Chris rocks a career in web design and this has come in handy with creating our covers. They are all Chris’s original work with my influence of course. I may not design them but I can find the right pictures (imagine me grinning and Chris executing an eye roll). It is the elusive blurb that we are never satisfied with and want to perfect but that is all part of the journey of honing our craft.

Tomorrow Cecilia Aubrey Day 4: The middle years
Bio
Cecilia Aubrey (also known as C. Aubrey) has dabbled in writing on and off over the years. But it was in 2010, when she was offered a life changing opportunity within a role-playing group that writing placed itself front and center. The development of story ideas, research, writing, and participation in bringing those stories to life spurred a desire to take writing to a higher level.

A few months later, Cecilia and her partner in crime, Chris Almeida, began writing suspense driven erotic romance with sexy, technologically inclined men and woman filled with intrigue and enough twists and turns that makes a rollercoaster seem tame.

They have several published short stories to their credit. Their first novel, Countermeasure, was published in January 2012, and the second novel in the series, To Russia with Love, was released in July. Currently they are hard at work on the next installment. Through all the chaos and laughter, they still hold true to their roots bringing their favorite role-play characters and stories to life.
