Review:

The Shifter series is the first I have read of Jaden Sinclair’s stories, but the plotlines of both tales so far released stood out as possibly very good and fairly original. Having now read the first two in the series, I have found them both to be a marginally good read, but there is some missing development that really stands out, particularly in Dedrick’s Taming, that should have been in the story. It is for this reason that whilst the style of writing is good, I have limited their rating to a six.

The second in the series, Dedrick’s Taming is a fairly good story. I felt its main problem was with Jaclyn’s character. She seems to know that Stefan and Dedrick are werewolves, but it didn’t seem to me that she knew what this entailed. She had little reaction to this facet of their lives. She did not seem to be aware of any of the werewolves’ capabilities, apart from shape shifting, which is strange since she knows her best friend is mated to a werewolf. I would suggest that this is the main part of the tale that, if ever revised, be worked on the most by the author. Other than this, I liked Jaclyn. She is a bold, brassy woman who is something of a go-getter, except when she is confronted with one aspect of her past.

Dedrick is the eldest of the siblings, head of the family – though at the moment they are trying to avoid him because of the foul mood he is in. Having had his first heat at age sixteen, his control over his basic instincts has been tuned to a fine art. But as the years pass, it becomes much more difficult for him to keep control of himself. He needs his mate to balance out his heat. He has not yet found her, until he meets Jaclyn at his brother’s party. Although he is at first unaware that she is his mate, his body knows it, and reacts to her accordingly, going so far as to unknowingly mark her without his realizing it when they have sex. It is a shock to him that Jaclyn wants to have sex with him during his heat and on Moon Night, when he is like a bitch in heat, wanting sex all night long, rough and hard. But want sex she does, though she doesn’t realize what she is starting. After marking her, what will Dedrick do? Will he be able to protect her from the threat facing her from her past?

The sex scenes in Dedrick’s Taming are very detailed and explicit, in addition to occasionally being rather risky though adventuresome. I would not advise you trying some of their activities at home, or rather, on the open road. This tale does feature anal sex and violence so if this is something you prefer not to read about, seriously consider giving this story, and the others in the series, a miss. As with the first tale, several events in the story are unexpected, so the reader can enjoy the tale without knowing what is coming. Slightly longer than Stefan’s Mark, Dedrick’s Tamingis just as enjoyable, though perhaps both are best suited to paranormal fans who are not overly sensitive about what they want to read.
