Review:

This is a graphic rendering of a favorite but short lived series: Serenity by Joss Whedon (of Buffy fame) is a boon to any graphic novel’s library or even those who love Science Fiction meets Westerns in a good way. Those Left Behind covers the first three books that came out in this format in one hard cover book.

It covers beautifully the actors who played these characters while they act giving you a real sense of the story being played out. There is also a section at the end with back drops on how the world building for the story was done. Delightfully written, Well drawn, and beautifully produced. I only wish I had found this sooner. Hope to collect the rest of them of a series ended much too soon.

Review:

Book 4 in the Mario (Ambulance Chaser) is the new book in the series, titled Free Fall. This book takes you through the free-falling and wild 1970’s When Mario has hit his mid 20’s and all the post-Vietnam, post-war protest and now joyful living and European getaways. The book is very spot on with the time and very adult with the sex. If you love to travel, sex, food and descriptive detail, this is the book for you.

Mario is a bit older now, but still the boy from the Barrio. He has become a successful businessman, but after being almost killed in book 3, he decided to take a change from being an Ambulance Chaser to instead, Aviation Chaser which takes him and his team of gorgeous women around the world. Along the way, he meets Sami and Jason who grew up very differently than he did, and yet their taste for the good life matches his and he becomes friends and more with them.

Along the way, trouble as always seems to find Mario and he learns who his true friends are and who the enemy. You will find this book a great romp through the 70’s and through Europe with all the dear friends from books 1 -3 making main and cameo showings. Do not miss the latest in the series.

"No writer knows what they are doing till twenty years after the published book sits on the shelf and the child that had not yet been born, reads it, tells the tale of it, and tells the tale of it."

Review:

Having read two of George Hatcher’s prior books, Risky Business feels like a re-acquaintance with old friends. Several of the characters are familiar to me, with the exception of Melina. Melina is new in Mario’s life. She comes into his life at a most opportune time, when he’s at a low point in his life.

His best friend and lover, Tanis, is killed in front of him, and Mario is devastated, and out for blood. In his small community, blood pays for blood with blood. He knows the bullet that took Tanis away from him was meant for him. What he doesn’t know is who wants him dead. He didn’t want the police involved, so he sets out on a mission to solve Tanis' murder, all while hurting physically and emotionally. Throughout the time it takes to gather information, he keeps on with business as usual. That includes satisfying his enormous sexual appetite, oftentimes, with more than one woman at a time. Mario slows down a bit only when he meets Melina after she is involved in a car wreck. He tried to use Melina to replace Tanis, but once again, another attempt is made on his life. This one is eerily familiar, but it was only then that Mario finds out who wants him dead, and why.

The book has a nice pace and is written in a dialogue that’s easy to follow. It kept me rapidly turning the pages to find out who put the hit out on Mario. He seems to be liked by everyone, especially the women in his life. When it is finally revealed, I’m left speechless because the plot was kept tight until the very end. Great suspenseful read with lots of action and genuine love all around. Real hot page turner, new raunchy moralist on the block!

Review:

Madam Tulip by David Ahern is a cozy mystery about an out-of-work actress with her father's psychic gift. When her best friend suggests making money with her psychic gift, Derry creates the role of her life - a fortune teller for the rich and famous. But her first gig as her alter ego, Madam Tulip, is disrupted by murder.

With her best friend framed for the murder, and the life of a super model in jeopardy, Derry must solve the case before it destroys her friends, family, and herself.

I adored Derry, her father Jacko, and her friend Bruce the most. Derry's borage tea addiction, Jacko's dramatic flare, and Bruce's unwavering loyalty kept me going back for more.

Ahern weaves an intriguing tale of murder and mayhem, with quirky heroes and dastardly villains. Madam Tulip is a fun exciting read and I look forward to the next book!
